House Cheek/ Midrand
Gauteng

Project Description
The brief was to design a four bedroom house with a guest room and a small flat. Included in the brief was a study and children’s TV lounge.
The challenge was to design a house on a particularly narrow stand, but still achieving maximum north exposure of all habitable rooms. The footprint selected comprised of a series of narrow sheds, linked from north to south with a linear passage and separated by narrow courtyards.
The courtyards allow for northern exposure and cross ventilation as well as usable and protected and more private outdoor space. The northern most wing, which accommodates the open plan kitchen, living and dining areas, as well as the main bedroom, all spills out onto a patio area with a narrow swimming pool and beautiful garden.
Facades are layered with the addition of functional timber and steel screens.
