The client, who owns a fleet management business, acquired a property in the eastern suburbs of Pretoria. The existing property had a dilapidated single storey residential dwelling on it which was previously re-zoned for business use. Wilkinson Architects were appointed to refurbish the building and re-design the street facade to reflect the successful corporate image of the company. The entire building was gutted and re-planned from scratch to accommodate the company’s new physical requirements.
The street facade consists of a new light weight metal screen with vertical metal roof sheeting as cladding, interrupted with vertical steel members.
The facade hides the strange proportions of the existing building, and allows for large company branding to be added. Changes to the existing building’s external facades were minimal to keep cost down and to prevent over capitalization.
The design proofs successful as it reflects a stylish corporate image which was achieved within very tight budget constraints by way of innovative thinking.
